Jack Frost still remembers South Carolina.

Sure, it might not feel that way right now. For instance, according to the National Weather Service, the Columbia area can expect several days of temperatures in the 90s this week, including a miserable high of 97 degrees on Thursday.

But rest assured, cooler fall weather is on the way soon, the Farmers’ Almanac states.

How about weather this winter though? What will the Christmas holiday be like for South Carolina residents? And will there be any of that fluffy white stuff this season?

The Farmers’ Almanac may have those answers.

The Almanac has offered extended weather forecasts every year since 1818 and the one recently released for 2022-2023 maintains that tradition. Winter for the Northern Hemisphere this year begins on Dec. 21 and will last through March 20.

Here’s what the Almanac has to say about winter weather for 2022-2023 in South Carolina.

Will there be snow?

  • Yes and no. The Almanac predicts South Carolina won’t have any solid, heavy blankets of snow this winter, but it could get some snow mixed with rain. However, it looks like the best chances for that won’t be until Feb. 8 through Feb. 11. Another round of showery rains or wet snow could happen between Feb. 12 and Feb. 15.
The 2023 Farmers’ Almanac, available in stores Aug. 15, predicts that “this winter will be filled plenty of shaking, shivering and shoveling.”
