Here’s how your county voted in the SC midterm elections
Republicans won some key victories in South Carolina on Election Day, but which counties helped them succeed?
Gov. Henry McMaster won reelection against his democratic opponent, Joe Cunningham, unofficial election results show. The win sets the 75-year-old toward being the longest-serving governor in state history.
Out of the state’s 46 counties, 34 swung in McMaster’s favor, the unofficial results show.
In the state superintendent’s race, Ellen Weaver, a non-educator who has worked in Republican politics most of her career, defeated Democrat Lisa Ellis, who is the Blythewood High School activities director and founder of the teachers group, SC for Ed. Weaver also won 34 counties, mostly by double-digit percentage points.
U.S. Sen. Tim Scott handily won a second term, winning all but nine counties to defeat his Democrat challenger, Krystle Matthews.
Democrats still had some victories Tuesday.
Incumbent and U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn won a 16th term against his Republican challenger, Duke Buckner. Clyburn carried nine of the 14 counties in his district.
Here are links to how every county voted in all elections on Tuesday, according to unofficial results from scvotes.gov. Results are expected to be certified later this week.
