Powerball winner’s prize was multiplied by 10 in South Carolina. Now he has a new home
A yearslong Powerball player was grocery shopping in November when he decided to grab a quick pick ticket.
For an extra dollar, he added on a PowerPlay multiplier, according to a Jan. 23 news release from South Carolina lottery officials.
That $1 investment paid off.
The lottery player’s ticket matched four of the first five numbers in the Powerball’s Nov. 26 drawing, winning him $50,000, lottery officials said. Then, the PowerPlay number was a 10, the rarest and largest multiplier, bringing the player’s total winnings to $500,000.
“Nobody was more stunned that me to win that much,” he told officials.
Now, the winner has moved into a new home, according to officials.
The winning ticket was bought at the Publix on Old Trolley Road in Summerville, about 20 miles northwest of Charleston.
