It’s one thing to live in luxury. It’s another to do so in a unique and or historic home.

If you’re in the market for such a home in South Carolina or just want to see what those kinds of luxury houses have to offer, Christie’s International Real Estate has some listings.

The luxury real estate company currently has five South Carolina historic and or uniquely-designed luxury homes that are listed for more than $4 million — with one in particular for sale for a much higher $8.6 million.

These homes offer not just historic charm, but unique designs and luxury amenities, from huge glass walls to handmade chandeliers, giant fireplaces and ocean views.

Here are five luxury homes currently for sale in South Carolina for more than $4 million.

47 E Bay Street, Charleston

This home, known as the Anne Boone House, is currently listed for $8.6 million. The recently renovated, pre-Revolutionary War home is said to have been built after the fire of 1740, within the shell of an early 18th Century house.

The home includes five bedrooms, five full baths and two partial baths. The property covers 0.26 acres and more than 7,000 square feet.

The north wall of the home features stucco and arched staircase windows that survived from the original construction.

The home offers a garden, heated pool and multiple outdoor seating areas. The pool house includes a bar, bathroom and shower.

Inside, the foyer features custom-painted floors and Venetian plaster. There are six fireplaces throughout the house. The formal dining room includes a butler’s pantry with two wine refrigerators.

Meanwhile, the second-floor landing includes Mosharabi panels handmade in Morocco, petrified wood tile and a beverage refrigerator. The library has original floors, paneling and custom bookshelves. Also, a sunroom can be accessed by the piazza or the large primary suite.

42 Legare Street, Charleston

Listed for $4.495 million, this Charleston single house was built in 1865 and was completely restored in 2022.

The home includes four bedrooms, four full baths and has 3,539 square feet of interior space. The charming structure features double piazzas, original heart pine floors, formal living spaces, a chef’s kitchen and a large family room.

58 Wild Ginger Road, Landrum

While only built in 2010, this $4.495 million home makes up for its lack of history with unique design and architectural features.

The 7,223 square-foot home comes with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, sits on 1.6 acres and was situated to give the owners excellent views of the surrounding area.

Enter the front of the home through double glass and wood doors and you’re welcomed by a barrel ceiling foyer, followed by bright interiors with high ceilings, intricate trim work and walls of glass to enjoy outside views.

The main level is anchored by a grand living room with a two-story fireplace, handmade chandelier, French doors that lead to an expansive deck and floor to ceiling windows. The kitchen includes high-end appliances, a butler’s pantry and granite-slab center island.

A stone wall and window-flanked staircase leads to the second level, which includes a guest suite, a home study and a private terrace. There’s also a theatre with stadium seating, a recreation room with a bar.

31 E Battery Street, Charleston

This $4.25 million home will give you a chance to not only own a piece of history, but get your hands dirty restoring it to its former glory.

The circa 1837 structure is the only available grand home on High Battery, according to the listing. The home comes with renovation plans that have been fully approved by the city’s board of architectural review. The restoration plan includes a rooftop deck, detached garage and other luxuries, all while maintaining the home’s interior wood paneling and other historic details.

The 7,505 square-foot, three-story house has six bedrooms, six bathrooms.

546 Myrtle Avenue, Pawleys Island

The LaBruce Lemon House, listed for $4.25 million, is already on the National Register. Built in 1858, the home played a part in the establishment of the Historic District of Pawleys Island in 1972.

This 2,832 square-foot home with six bedrooms, two full baths, includes 1.04 acres of high land bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side. It also has 1.4 acres of marsh on Pawleys Island Creek on the other side.

Some of the home’s features that were part of its original design include out buildings for servants, wood floors, fireplaces, a porch that wraps around the house and a covered oceanfront open deck and creek dock.

The summer kitchen originally was a separate building but has since been connected to the main home. Also, a separate wing was added that includes a bedroom and a full bath.
