Thinking about a romantic day trip in South Carolina with your significant other soon?

One travel publication thinks it’s found one of the best spots.

With spring returning, flowers blooming and bees buzzing, now is a great opportunity to spend more time outdoors with your significant other and get those romantic feelings flowing. There are plenty of places in the Palmetto State where couples can enjoy the outdoors, but some make for better romantic getaways than others.

To Travel+Leisure, one of the top romantic spots in South Carolina is Pitt Street Bridge. The Mount Pleasant location was one of 51 of the best romantic places in every state and the District of Columbia for 2023 recently ranked by the online travel site.

Just a short drive away from Charleston, Pitt Street Bridge, despite the name, has long since been turned into a full-fledged park. It’s official name is now the Pickett Bridge Recreation Area, named in memory of Dr. Otis M. Pickett and his wife, Ruth — two beloved citizens who served the area for more than 40 years from a doctor’s office on Pitt Street.

According to the town of Mount Pleasant website, Pitt Street Bridge was once a trolley bridge that connected Sullivan’s Island and Mount Pleasant. Now a site of relaxation and recreation, visitors can fish off the pier or kayak through the Charleston Harbor from the bridge within the Old Village Historic District.

“This bridge turned park is the perfect place for a waterfront evening stroll among the palmetto trees,” Travel+Leisure writes. “In this neck of the woods, it doesn’t get more romantic than that.”
