Roaches everywhere, rat droppings & more in Upstate restaurants with worst August inspections
South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Upstate in August, from roaches and rat droppings to dirty dishes stored as clean. The state each month releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Upstate counties.
Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in August.
Creekside Barbeque at 1115 Salem Church Road in Anderson
Creekside Bareque had an inspection on Aug. 3 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed rodent droppings in the front of shelving in the storage room and in the cabinet near the left entry door of the kitchen. Also observed were roaches on the wall under a sink, in a cabinet and on the floor in the pit room, as well as other areas of the facility.
The employee restroom toilet was seen covered in feces. Multiple areas of the walls of the building were in poor repair with holes. Several containers of meat were seen stored in undrained ice water in the walk-in cooler. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Aug. 11 and got a B grade. It had a second followup inspection on Aug. 18 and got an A grade.
Ingles Deli at 1900 N Main Street in Anderson
Ingles Deli had an inspection on Aug. 10 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed dishes and utensils with an accumulation of grease and food buildup and an employee failing to wash hands before putting on gloves.
The facility was seen failing to sanitize sheet pans used for raw chicken. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Aug. 11 and got a B grade. It had another followup inspection on Aug. 17 and got an A grade.
Taco Loco Bar & Grill at 122 W. Whitner Street in Anderson
Taco Loco had an inspection on Aug. 1 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed tote not safe for food used to store food products, as well as the reuse of Ziploc bags to store food.
The ice machine was seen with an accumulation of black grime. Also, the dishwashing machine was seen not sanitizing dishes. Facility workers were noted storing food at home due to lack of adequate refrigerated food storage. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Aug. 8 and got an A grade.
Taqueria Picante at 110 Miracle Mile Drive in Anderson
Taqueria Picante had an inspection on Aug. 31 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed raw eggs in carton trays stored above ready-to-eat foods. Also observed was one plate used as drip prevention when transferring raw chicken, steak and shrimp from prep unit to the flat top.
The hand sink was seen used for purposes other than hand washing. An employee was seen failing to use hand soap when washing hands. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Sept. 9 and got an A grade.
Corona Mexican Restaurant at 5101 Pelham Road in Greenville
Corona Mexican Restaurant had an inspection on Aug. 8 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed an employee handling raw chicken, raw beef, raw shrimp and raw vegetables with the same gloves. Also observed were employees handling ready-to-eat food with bare hands.
Organic matter buildup was seen in the ice machine. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.
The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Aug. 29 and got an A grade.
Alicia 1 LLC at 606 Seaboard Ave. in Greenwood
Alicia 1 had an inspection on Aug. 15 and got a C grade.
An inspector observed multiple knives, utensils and cutting boards with an accumulation of grime. Also observed was meat and fish thawing at room temperature without running water. There was no food probe thermometer available in the restaurant.
Food containers were seen stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler. Open containers of dried goods were seen stored in an unfinished store room.
The restaurant had a followup inspection on Aug. 23 and got an A grade.
