Fall is here and that means it’s time for festivals in South Carolina to kick off in earnest.
With October underway and temperatures dropping fast, South Carolinians have a host of quality fall festivals to try. From the huge annual state fair to more unique offerings like a celebration for all things Bigfoot, there should be a festival almost everyone.
Here are five of the best South Carolina festivals slated for October.
South Carolina State Fair

When it comes to festivals in the state, they don’t get much bigger than this. The 12-day South Carolina State Fair will again be jam-packed with fun and entertainment for the whole family, featuring rides, games, exhibits and grandstand entertainment. There will also be stages with a variety of acts such as comedy, bands, dancers, local entertainment and entertainment from area schools. And don’t forget the many different foods and treats that will be available, including 13 foods that have never been featured at the state fair before, such as fried Twinkies on a stick.
Ridge Spring Harvest Festival

If you’re looking for a taste of small town fall festival entertainment, Ridge Spring should qualify. The town has hosted its annual festival for the last 22 years. Activities this year will a beauty pageant, Gospel music, a parade, carnival rides, arts and crafts, food vendors and free historic carriage rides. And all of that is packed inside a package of small town charm.
South Carolina Bigfoot Festival

Fun, food and a hefty dose of weirdness comprise the South Carolina Bigfoot Festival. Now in its fourth year, the festival has grown quickly in popularity, partly because of the unique nature of the event.
While there will be food and craft vendors, music, as well as a beer garden for the first time this year, the real highlight will be the Bigfoot tales from alleged experts on the mythological Sasquatch. If you’re a fan of cryptozoology or just curious to learn more about Bigfoot, this festival is a must see.
Western Carolina State Fair

This fair will have a plethora of attractions to dazzle and delight visitors of all ages. There will be a magician/comedy show; a show called K9s in Flight, which will feature dogs performing a variety of fantastic tricks; broncs and bull riding; and a demo derby. And of course, there will be plenty of food and other vendors.
Georgetown Wooden Boat Show

- Where: Along the waterfront and Front Street in downtown Georgetown

Swing by historic downtown Georgetown for the 34th annual Wooden Boat Show. One of the Southeast’s best wooden boat exhibits, the event will feature more than 100 classic wooden boats displayed on land and water. There will also be boat building demonstrations, a corrugated boat race, children’s model boat building, a youth sailing regatta, knot tying, maritime arts and crafts, and plenty of food.
