Worker trapped under 16,000-pound piece of equipment as crews rush in, SC photos show
A worker was trapped under a 16,000-pound piece of machinery as crews raced to save him, South Carolina photos show.
Colleton County Fire-Rescue said the man was working for a tree company when the equipment fell onto him.
“The large piece of equipment was operating in a wooded area down a deep embankment when it tipped over on uneven ground,” officials wrote Oct. 4 in a news release.
The man became stuck under the machinery, described as a track lift that weighed about 16,000 pounds. Often, a track lift has an arm that raises a basket into the air, allowing workers to reach higher parts of trees.
Photos that Colleton County Fire-Rescue shared online show the piece of machinery resting on its side as crews surrounded it. First responders said they stabilized the equipment and brought rescue gear down the embankment.
The worker was freed from the equipment and treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital’s trauma center.
“The man received multiple injuries, but was remarkably in stable condition,” officials wrote.
The rescue was reported in the Walterboro area, roughly 50 miles west of Charleston.
