You may have bought Quaker Oats foods in SC that have salmonella. Here’s how to check
Quaker Oats recently recalled dozens of its cereal and granola bar products in South Carolina because they could be contaminated with salmonella.
Big Chewy Bars Chocolate Chip, Chewy granola bar variety packs, protein cereals and several other products have been included in the recall, according to a Friday U.S. Food and Drug Administration press release.
The affected products have been sold in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan. The products have “best by” dates ranging from August to October of 2024.
“To date, Quaker has received no confirmed reports of illness related to the products covered by the recall,” the FDA states. “Consumers should check their pantries for any of the products listed … and dispose of them.”
Customers who purchased any of the listed products are advised to contact Quaker Consumer Relations at 1-800-492-9322 or visit www.quakergranolarecall.com for more information or product reimbursement.

Salmonella
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, salmonella is a type of bacteria found meats, vegetables and other foods that can cause serious illness. The CDC estimates salmonella causes about 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations and 420 deaths in the U.S. each year.
Most patients who contract salmonella suffer from symptoms including diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. The symptoms typically begin 6 hours to six days after infection and can last up to seven days.
Most people recover from salmonella without specific treatment. However, some patients’ illness may be so severe that they must be hospitalized.
