Alexandra Tanner has no idea how Feya ended up 15 miles away on Johns Island.

She’s just ecstatic her little girl is finally home.

That little girl Feya, a 12-pound tortoiseshell cat to be exact, was recently found on the island and brought to the Charleston Animal Society on Sunday, according to an animal society press release.

What’s particularly astonishing is Tanner had reported Feya missing in Mt. Pleasant five years earlier.

Once found, Feya was quickly reunited with her owner, given that she was microchipped. Tanner’s listed phone number no longer worked, but fortunately Tanner had added her sister as an emergency backup.

Tanner said that when her sister called her, all she heard on the other end was, “Oh my God, Oh, my God, Oh my God!”

After her sister calmed down, Tanner learned that Feya had been found.

“I had a bit of a brain freeze,” Tanner said after learning the news.

Tanner had tried everything to find Feya in the weeks after she disappeared in 2019. She and her family and friends hung posters, posted about the cat online, went door-to-door and checked local animal shelters.

Feya was found in rough shape — underweight with injured paws and thinning fur. Still, she recognized Tanner, purring when the two reunited, the press release states.

“All I know is Charleston Animal Society is fantastic,” Tanner said.
