3-year-old wandering in road leads deputies to his mom’s body, SC cops say
A 3-year-old boy found wandering a road led deputies to his mother’s body, South Carolina officials told news outlets.
Now, a man who had been out on bond is charged with murder, according to the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies in their April 6 news release didn’t list attorney information for the man, identified as Colin Sedrick Bruce.
Just after 12:30 p.m. April 5, the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a child in a road. The boy reportedly told deputies and other people in the area that his mom was hurt inside a home.
Deputies said they went into the home and found a woman dead. She was identified as the child’s mom, and her death was being investigated as a homicide, officials told WPDE and WBTW.
The sheriff’s office said Bruce was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, unlawful neglect placing a child at risk and weapons charges. He was taken to the Marlboro County jail in Bennettsville, a roughly 85-mile drive northwest from Myrtle Beach.
“Bruce was currently out on bond for arrests from December and February totaling $27,000 for pending charges with the same victim,” including two assault and battery cases, officials said. He also had been accused of kidnapping and larceny.
The homicide investigation continues, and anyone with additional information is asked to call deputies at 843-479-5605.
Deputies in their news release didn’t reveal the woman’s name or say how they believe she was killed. The Marlboro County sheriff’s and coroner’s offices didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on April 9.
