Hacker posting photos of girls’ bedrooms on this SC school district’s Facebook page, officials say
The official Facebook page for Spartanburg County School District 4 is full of student accomplishment — 5th grade awards day, middle school achievers, high school grads’ jobs. And then there’s the three posts showing photos of children’s bedrooms, pink bedspreads, teddy bear nightlights, Disney creations.
They’ve been hacked, said Amy Williams, spokesperson for the Woodruff based district.
The first post of the Disney bedroom and other elaborate pink rooms, including a Cinderella sleigh bed, appeared Tuesday afternoon under the heading “kids beautiful rooms.”
Then early Thursday came another — a pink bedspread with a Teddy bear tucked in a double bed and what appears to be a breakfast in bed tray at the end. Then two hours later, a single bed with nightlight and a desk with an iMac.
No people. No signs of where the actual photos came from.
Williams said they’ve contacted Facebook.
But as it is with Facebook it’s hard to get an actual person on the phone.
As of Thursday afternoon the photos were still there.
Williams said whoever hacked the page has control so district IT folks can’t delete the posts.
They haven’t seen any signs that the hacker tried to hack anything else, especially the district’s website.
Calls and emails went out to parents, some of whom responded to the posts on the Facebook page.
“This is a scam and stupid,” wrote Daniel Gamble.
Maggie Mae Hanley: “I’m going to laugh so hard if this turns out to be a senior prank.”
Angel Blackwell Vinson: “I really wished they would show some boys rooms too.”
Williams acknowledged it could have been a lot worse.
