The 2 best new restaurants in SC serve Italian and Asian food, Yelp says. Why they’re great
If you’re craving quality restaurant food, it’s likely South Carolina has everything you could want.
The Palmetto State is loaded with top tier restaurants that offer a variety of tasty options, from fried chicken and tacos to barbecue and pizza. And plenty of new, quality restaurants open all the time.
Yelp has been monitoring South Carolina and determined it has two of the 25 best new restaurants in the South for 2024. To find the best restaurants, Yelp identified full-service businesses that opened after Jan. 31 2023, then ranked them using several factors, including their total volume and ratings of reviews. All businesses on the list have a passing health score as of May 1, 2024.
Here’s a look at the new restaurants and why they’re great. For a look at all the restaurants on the list, click here.
Xo Brasserie
Xo Brasserie in Charleston ranked 14th on the list of best restaurants in the South for 2024. Found in the NoMo neighborhood, the restaurant’s executive chef Michael Chanthavong oversees the menu, which includes classics like crab fried rice and steak chow fun.
“The decor runs to shades of jade and warm wood accents, while potted palms line the windows and a mural of origami cranes flies along the walls,” Yelp writes. “After dark, dramatic lighting creates an air of romance.”
Yelp reviews have also heaped praise upon the restaurant.
“Go soon while rezzies may still be had. The food is flavorful and sublime. The dumpling wrappers are like silk, the fillings superb. Super staff. Beautiful decor. Can’t wait to go back,” Yelp reviewer Lawrence L. writes.
Costa
Costa came in at 17th on the list and can also be found in Charleston. The restaurant offers downtown Charleston coastal Italian fare from Liguria to Amalfi and down to Sicily.
“Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the Ashley River, while sunny yellow and deep blue banquettes reinforce the waterside vibe,” Yelp writes.
Led by Chef Vinson Pertrillo, the restaurant serves handmade Italian pasta, seafood, classic beef dishes and other Mediterranean-themed dishes.
“Our experience at Costa was a culinary delight. Standouts [included] flawlessly crafted Scallop Crudo, indulgent oysters, and luscious Burrata. The stars of the evening were the perfectly cooked Cherry Point Swordfish and Beef Cheek Tortelli,” Yelp reviewer Shamila P. writes.
