Winning grand prize in lottery game bought at convenience store leaves SC man stunned
An Upstate man was stunned after he won the grand prize on a scratch-off ticket, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
“I was surprised,” the man said in a news release about winning a $50,000 jackpot on a Jumbo Bucks game that he purchased for $2.
The five-figure winning scratch-off ticket was sold at the Express Mart gas station/convenience store at 219 Shiloh Road in Seneca, according to the release.
This wasn’t the first time the winner bought a lottery game at the Express Mart, officials said. He didn’t say if he’ll continue buying lottery tickets after his big win.
The man also didn’t reveal any plans he has for the newfound windfall, saying “I’m not making any big changes.”
The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The odds of winning the top prize in the $2 Jumbo Bucks game were 1-in-600,000, according to the release. Two of the game’s eight top prize-winning tickets remain unclaimed, officials said.
Express Mart received a commission of $500 for selling the claimed ticket, according to the release.
