In case you’re leery about whether your absentee ballot will be counted, South Carolina and all other states allow you to track your ballot.

There is a simple form on the South Carolina Election Commissions website to fill in your name, address, county, last four digits of your social security number and to promise you are not a robot.

The link will let you see where your ballot is in the process.

If you haven’t received your ballot you can check the status there as well and get in touch with your county elections office.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Friday.

Unlike some states, South Carolina does not allow everyone to vote absentee.

Those who can include caretakers of a sick or physically disabled person, people in jail before trial, people who are out of town on election day, people with physical disabilities or older than 65 or people in the hospital.

Military members and their families have special instructions:

State law has changed and now requires people to call, visit or mail your county voter registration office to get an absentee ballot. The state once allowed requests to be made online or by email.

Also, early voting began Monday in South Carolina. and runs until Nov. 2. The hours are 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
