Driver killed in crash with utility pole, South Carolina Highway Patrol says
A person was killed Monday when a motorcycle ran off a Midlands road and crashed into a utility pole, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened in Clarendon County, said Cpl. Nick Pye.
A 2008 Harley-Davidson was driving east on Bloomville Road, according to Pye. Near the intersection with Bonanza Crossing Road, in the Manning area, the motorcycle ran off the right side of Bloomville Road and crashed into the pole, Pye said.
The motorcycle rider died, according to Pye.
The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the motorcycle rider.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet.
Information about what caused the motorcycle to veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, 817 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least eight people have died in Clarendon County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data. There were 15 deaths reported in the county in 2023, DPS said.
