SC has one of the top winter vacation spots in the South for 2024, Southern Living says
Getting the itch for a winter vacation?
Maybe you’d like to travel somewhere warmer than where you live to better enjoy holiday activities? Or perhaps you want a place that may have a little snow and is just cold enough for cozy, relaxing evenings with loved ones?
Well, the South offers those options, and Southern Living has recently compiled a list of 10 of the best winter travel destinations for this year. Of those, just one South Carolina spot made the cut.
Take a look below.
Johns Island
Johns Island took the fourth spot on Southern Living’s list.
The largest island in South Carolina and the fourth largest island on the East Coast, Johns Island is 84 square miles with a population of more than 14,000 people. The island is home to the famous Angel Oak, an estimated 400 to 500-year-old Southern live oak.
The island is filled with natural beauty, some of which you can enjoy from The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection, which recently opened, Southern Living states.
“Located on 2,000 acres of Kiawah Riverfront and grasslands, the 72-room property is the perfect place to cozy up, eat some oysters, and appreciate the beauty of South Carolina’s winter months,” Southern Living writes.
Southern Living notes that another benefit of vacationing at Johns Island is its close proximity to Charleston. Winter is the low season for the Holy City, making it an excellent time to enjoy what it has to offer.
“Outside of the holidays — when magnolia garlands, wreaths, and twinkling lights deck the historic homes in the South of Broad, French Quarter, and Harleston Village neighborhoods — the destination is quieter, and it’s significantly easier to find reservations and parking,” Southern Living writes.
