‘Charming stunner’ 124 year-old SC island home is for sale for $11.35M. Take a look
A house built by the Army Corps of Engineers on Sullivan’s Island in 1900 — and fully restored recently — is for sale, asking price: $11,350,000.
Located at 1750 Ion Avenue, one of the island’s interior oak tree-lined streets, the house has six bedrooms, six baths and 6,059 square feet.
The recent renovation also included an expansive kitchen addition.
But many pieces of history remain, including vertical grain heart pine floors, four fireplaces with original tile surrounds, chandeliers, wraparound porches on the first and second floors, pressed tin 11’ ceilings, crown molding throughout and exposed beam porches, the listing says.
The first floor includes a foyer, living, dining, and family rooms. The new kitchen includes a sitting area and scullery with high end appliances and lots of storage.
Sun porches are at each end of the house. One has a custom wet bar. An office with floor to ceiling windows is at the other.
The second floor has four bedrooms, with new en suite bathrooms and access to covered porches. Two of the bedrooms have original working fireplaces.
The house has two laundry rooms, one on the first floor near the kitchen, the other on the second floor.
The third floor has a living space with two bedrooms and a shared bath. The rooftop deck is accessed from that area.
The backyard is fenced and includes citrus, palm and live oak trees. There is a crushed oyster shell dining area.
The house has a generator, carport, detached shed, and two outdoor showers.
“This charming stunner is at the center of a wonderful community, just a short stroll from the beach and an easy walk, bike or golf cart ride to the island’s top restaurants and shops,” the listing says.
Sullivan’s Island has had a number of quite famous residents, including Reese Witherspoon, Stephen Colbert and Bill Murray.
The house most recently sold for $4 million in 2021. Property taxes are $17,870 a year.
