South Carolinians made a ton of Google searches this year.
But do you remember what you searched for the most on the internet? Google certainly does.
Google recently released its annual “Year in Search,” highlighting the top queries made in its popular search engine in 2024. The top searches listed were those that had the highest spike in traffic year-over-year. Categories included top trending topics, entertainment, sports, and music.
In the U.S., unsurprisingly, the top trending topic for the year was the election, followed by Donald Trump, the New York Yankees, and Kamala Harris.
For the musicians category, Usher grabbed the top spot in the U.S., followed by Diddy, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Justin Timberlake.
The 2024 Summer Olympics were also a popular search topic, along with Mike Tyson, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and movies like ‘Inside Out 2’ and ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.’
SC Google searches
South Carolina had a wide mix of search trends throughout 2024, Google shows. Out of the entire U.S., South Carolina ranked 1st in top trending searches for “solar eclipse glasses near me.”
A total solar eclipse occurred over much of North America on April 8 — the last to happen across the continent until 2044 and 2045.
South Carolina was only privy to a near-total solar eclipse, but that apparently didn’t stifle interest in the event in the state.
