‘Sweet’ rescue dog was paralyzed but defied the odds in Florida. Now, he needs a home
A “sweet” rescue dog was “unable to move” — then he defied the odds in Florida.
Now, Churro the pup can use his legs and needs a new owner, according to a South Carolina-based animal rescue.
“We’re starting the search for his perfect forever home — one where he’ll be safe, happy, and cherished for the rest of his life,” Black Tie Boston Rescue wrote Jan. 1 in a Facebook post.
The 1-year-old pup is waiting for a second chance after his “life took a miraculous turn” in November. It started when the Myrtle Beach-area rescue saw an “urgent” post about Churro struggling in Miami, Florida.
“He was found on the streets and brought to a high-kill, overcrowded shelter, completely paralyzed and in unbearable pain,” Megan Davis, director of the rescue, told McClatchy News via email. “With little time to spare, we at Black Tie Boston Rescue stepped in, even though he was far outside our typical rescue area. Churro needed emergency spinal surgery to save his life, and we couldn’t let him suffer or face euthanasia without a fighting chance.”
The dog was rushed to a specialist, who performed the much-needed procedure. Then, “against all odds, Churro pulled through,” Davis wrote.
Now, more than a month after the surgery, Churro is “thriving.” He’s described as a smart, energetic French bulldog who must be the only pet in his next home.
“Because of his injury, his family will need to take extra precautions, such as preventing him from jumping off furniture or engaging in activities that could strain his delicate spine,” Davis wrote. “But in return, Churro promises to be a loyal companion, full of love, spirit, and gratitude.”
As of Jan. 2, the “resilient” pup was living at a foster home in Florida as he waited for a new owner. Details about the rescue’s adoption process can be found at bostonrescueteam.com.
“We believe there’s a special home out there for Churro — a family looking for a loyal, loving, and adorable best friend who has overcome so much and deserves the very best,” rescuers wrote.
