Here’s how much snow SC may soon get and when and where it will fall, latest forecast says
South Carolinians who are fans of snow may get what they want at the end of this week.
As long as they live in certain parts of the state, that is.
As of Monday evening, the National Weather Service was predicting slight chances of snow on Friday for the Midlands and even greater chances of the white stuff for the Upstate. There was no snow in the forecast for residents in the Pee Dee region or Lowcountry.
The snow is expected to follow consecutive days of below normal temperatures for the state.
SC snow chances
Midlands
The latest NWS forecast predicts a 30% chance of snow for the Midlands after 1 p.m., followed by rain, likely mixed with snow and freezing rain that evening. The likelihood of snow and freezing rain is highest for those north of I-20.
As of Monday evening, less than 1 inch of snow was predicted to fall in the Midlands.
“While confidence in frozen precipitation is still low, the potential of a mix of rain, snow freezing rain, or sleet is increasing,” the NWS states.
Upstate
Residents living in the Upstate should expect far more snow on Friday and Saturday. The NWS forecast calls for a 40% chance of snow after 2 p.m. on Friday, followed by rain and then more snow that evening. An accumulation of 2 to 4 inches of snow may be possible.
There is also a 70% chance of wintry mix of snow and rain on Saturday, the NWS states.
Freezing temperatures
South Carolina faces below average temperatures leading up to the potential snowfall, which may aid in snow and ice accumulation in certain parts of the state.
For the Midlands, expect highs in the high 40s and lows in the low 20s from Tuesday through Thursday.
The Lowcountry will be even colder, with highs in the mid-to-low 40s and lows in the low 20s, the NWS predicts.
