SC has one of the 25 best places in the world to visit in 2025, Airbnb says. Here’s why it’s great
If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience this year, you don’t have to look much farther than South Carolina, Airbnb says.
Airbnb recently released its list of the top 25 places in the world to visit in 2025.
The list includes destinations that have been surging in popularity, based on a rise in searches made for solo travelers, families and group adventurers for trips in 2025 compared to the previous year. The list also includes the most wish listed cities of 2024 that Airbnb predicts will continue to trend this year.
“From flourishing cultural hubs like Tokyo, Japan and Mumbai, India to destinations that offer unique experiences like swimming with turtles in Whitsundays, Australia and relaxing in the thermal saltwater baths in Bad Staffelstein, Germany, this list has something for every travel bucket list,” an Airbnb press release states.
But what about South Carolina? Only five U.S. spots were included on the list.
Below is the destination Airbnb chose from the Palmetto State.
Charleston
This year, Airbnb has added the Holy City to its list of best places in the world to visit.
“Explore the city’s historic district, including its most photographed spot, Rainbow Row — an iconic row of 13 pastel houses,” Airbnb writes. “Beyond the city’s landmarks, stroll through Charleston’s immaculate gardens and enjoy Southern comfort food with local dishes like shrimp and grits and she-crab soup.”
If golf is your entertainment of choice, then Charleston is also a place for you. The Yeamans Hall Club golf course in Charleston was named a top five South Carolina golf course for 2025 by Golf Magazine.
Designed in 1925, the course offers a “charming tour of Redan, Biarritz, and Road holes woven through marshland and magnificent live oaks,” Golf Magazine states. A two-decade-long renovation has restored the course to its original glory.
“Though the overall vibe at Yeamans is tranquil, a green pad like the one built up at the Knoll 14th is as pugnacious as it gets,” Golf Magazine states.
And if your visit to Charleston gets you thinking that the city might also be a great place to live, then you may be on the right track.
Travel+Leisure and a team of real estate experts last year named Charleston the best place to live in the South.
“Its proximity to the ocean and vibrant nightlife are magnificent,” Christine Quillin, an affiliate broker and partner with Parks Real Estate at Compass, said to Travel + Leisure. “It is truly suitable for young professionals and families looking to plant their roots.”
