Joann fabrics stores closing 500 locations — here are the ones in SC shutting their doors
South Carolinians who enjoy sewing and crafting will soon have fewer places to shop for supplies in the state.
Joann announced Wednesday that it would close “approximately 500” of its 850 locations across the U.S., according to USA Today. The closings include five of nine stores in South Carolina.
The announcement comes after the company filed for bankruptcy in January after previously filing then going private in March 2024.
Joann said in its latest announcement that it was looking to “right-size its store footprint,” USA Today wrote. “This was a very difficult decision to make, given the major impact we know it will have on our Team Members, our customers and all of the communities we serve. A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the Company determined which stores should remain operating as usual at this time.”
The retail chain did not release an official list of closing stores to the public. However, it did submit locations to the court as part of its bankruptcy process. The court documents list 533 stores in 49 states that are slated to close, according to USA Today.
