Most South Carolina counties got a population boost in 2024 — but some more than others, new Census data shows.
The U.S. Census Bureau recently released population growth data for all counties in every state in 2024. Approximately 65% of U.S. counties gained population in 2024, year-over-year.
In general, large counties (those with populations over 100,000) grew faster than small ones (those with populations below 10,000) in 2024. Large counties grew by 1.1% on average, while the small ones had an annual decrease of 0.2% on average.
Also, nine of the 10 largest-gaining counties were in large metro areas in the South and West.
But what about the counties just in South Carolina?
