An 8,138 square-foot home on the Ashley River in Charleston recently sold for $15.2 million, the second highest residential sale on the peninsula, according to Daniel Ravenel Sotheby’s International Realty.

Realtor Middleton Rutledge represented the sellers, Rom and Renee Reddy. Rutledge also represented the couple when they bought the home at 18 Murray Boulevard for $6.5 million in 2024.

The Reddys spent the past year renovating the house that was built in 1991.

“The Reddys, who have a sharp eye for location, style and design, poured their hearts into transforming this waterfront home,” Rutledge said.

The house has five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms. It is a classic Charleston double house with two stories and a central hallway and rooms on each side. The long facade faces the street.

It has an Italian kitchen with dual hand-cut quartz islands and a 72” Officine Gullo Fiorentina gas range imported from Italy. There are wide-plank white oak floors and a sculptural stone-and-iron staircase.

The primary suite is on the second floor and has river views, a spa-inspired bath clad in floor-to-ceiling porcelain, and dual custom walk-in closets.

“French doors open onto a piazza that spans the width of the home,” the real estate company said in a news release.

The house has two guest suites, a media room, a wine room, a secondary kitchen, and a garden-level suite.

An in-ground pool and spa has been built in the rear garden, which features formal landscaping and a brick-paver patio.

The home also has an elevator, Sonos audio, hurricane-rated mahogany windows, a whole-house generator, and advanced water management and security systems.

It was an off-market deal, which the real estate company said “showcases the power of deep market knowledge and enduring client relationships.”

Laura Farish at Maison Real Estate in Charleston represented the buyer, who identified only as Charleston residents.

The Reddys live on the Isle of Palms.

Rom Reddy has been in the news of late for his fight with South Carolina’s coastal agency, which fined him and his wife $289,000 for beachfront construction. The state claims the Reddys built an illegal seawall. They said the structure is on their property and was built to protect their house.

Reddy also has worked to nix the nomination of Myra Reece, interim director of South Carolina Department of Environmental Services to be the permanent head.

Reddy also has created a political action committee with $2.5 million funding to launch a state version of President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency.

He owns a number of businesses, including a string of newspapers in the Charleston area called Lucky Dog Publishing.
