Autumn, a giraffe at the Greenville Zoo, is about to deliver her seventh calf, and the Greenville Zoo Foundation is sponsoring a live feed of Autumn’s journey.

The foundation did the same in 2023 when Autumn had Blossom and the live feed attracted 21 million viewers.

Autumn, who is 19, has been at the Greenville Zoo since 2007, transferred from Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums breeding program.

Will Mesimer, senior marketing and events coordinator at the zoo, said they expect her to give birth around the middle of June.

“She’s been an excellent mother,” he said. Feeding, protecting, caring for her calves.

A Masai giraffe, Autumn’s first partner was Walter, who came from the San Diego Zoo.

Autumn and Walter had three calves over four years, including Kiko in 2012, Roho in 2014 who was still born, and Tatu in 2016.

Next, Miles was sent to Greenville from the Houston Zoo as a partner for Autumn in 2016 and they have produced Kiden in 2018, Kellan in 2019, Providence in 2021 and Blossom in 2023.

The offspring have been sent to various zoos around the country and have in turn produced calves.

Blossom was sent to the Louisville Zoo earlier this month, Mesimer said.

Giraffes have a 15-month gestation period, and can live as long as 30 years in captivity. Babies stand up within an hour or two after being born.
