Your Waffle House breakfast in SC just got cheaper. Here’s how
Whether you like them sunny side up, over easy or scrambled, eggs tend to be an integral part of the Waffle House breakfast experience.
And that experience has gotten cheaper.
The popular 24-hour restaurant chain recently announced it had removed a $0.50 surcharge for eggs that was added about five months ago because of the avian flu.
Waffle House posted the news on its Instagram on Tuesday, noting the surcharge was officially off the menu. Waffle House has more than 2,000 locations in the U.S., most of which are in the Midwest and Southeast. South Carolina boasts among the states with the highest number of Waffle Houses at around 171 locations.
Why Waffle House raised egg prices
Waffle House added the surcharge because of soaring egg prices caused by the avian flu that killed chickens across the U.S. Various restaurants and retailers responded to the skyrocketing cost of eggs by limiting the amount that people could buy. Others, like Waffle House, raised prices.
Egg prices began falling around March and continued to fall through May, according to the latest U.S. Consumer Price Index data. June data is not yet available.
