Lottery player scratches $5 ticket to reveal big SC prize. Now, he wants more
A lucky lottery player turned his $5 scratch-off into a six-figure prize, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
Now, the Upstate man has his heart set on an even bigger bounty.
“I’m hoping to win a Mega Millions jackpot,” he told the lottery in an Aug. 1 news release after netting a $200,000 windfall on a Big Wins Extra Play scratch-off game.
He bought the winning ticket at a Hot Spot convenience store in Landrum, beating odds of 1 in 780,000 to snag the game’s last top prize, the lottery said.
The man said he shared the winnings with his church and family but plans to keep the next big win for himself.
As for Mega Millions, the jackpot was last won on June 27 when a ticket sold in Virginia matched all six numbers, netting a prize worth $384 million, according to the game’s website.
The next Mega Millions drawing is Aug. 1 with an estimated $140 million jackpot.
Landrum is about a 115-mile drive northwest from downtown Columbia.
