If you’ve always dreamed of being in film and are going to be in Upstate on Aug. 24, you might want to send a photo and phone number to Hush Girl Productions.

They are looking for background actors for a television production called “Imperfect Vessel,” Hush Girl’s founder Destiny Macon said Friday.

Macon said the film is about a disgraced church leader’s long-buried secret that she abandoned a son, who resurfaces and confronts her “forcing them both to wrestle with forgiveness and discover that God’s grace can redeem even the deepest wounds.”

Greenville native Macon is a screenwriter, director, and civil engineer who graduated from the University of South Carolina and UCLA’s screenwriting graduate program.

She won a $30,000 grant from the Indie Grants program to fund her short film, Talk Black, which was a finalist in ABFF’s HBO short film showcase and is streaming on Max. It is about a timid engineer who develops a split personality to help her speak up to the boy’s club at work.

The screenplay for Talk Black (the feature) was a winner in ScreenCraft’s 2023 comedy competition, was awarded the Sloan Writing Fellowship Award through the Athena Film Festival lab, and participated in the New York Stage and Film’s filmmaker workshop.

Hush Girl Productions, LLC offers freelance screenwriting and consulting services to writers and media companies.

Applications to get the background player gig are due by 5 p.m. Aug. 18 to info@hushgirlpro.com.

The filming location, a church at 821 Whitlock Street in Spartanburg, is one of the Urban League of the Upstate’s newest set locations, she said.

Macon said they are looking for people of all ages and ethnicities and filming will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“It is unpaid but there will be snacks and plenty of excitement,” Macon said.
