A kitten with vision loss relies on his sister for help — and a South Carolina shelter hopes the two aren’t separated.
That’s because the little ones — named Comet and Dark Matter — share a connection that’s “out of this world.”
“Their bond is deep, loving, and unbreakable — they play together, nap curled up together, and face every new experience as a team,” the Greenville Humane Society wrote in a Facebook post. “Because of this beautiful connection (and Dark Matter’s special needs), they’re looking for a forever home together.”
As of Aug. 19, the two siblings were up for adoption. After being surrendered by their previous owner in July, they were diagnosed with upper respiratory infections and an intestinal parasite, the shelter wrote in online adoption profiles and in an email to McClatchy News.
As the kittens got better, the shelter said it saw “how much Dark Matter relied on his sister to navigate the world. They are both very affectionate and a bit timid at first, but once they warm up they are total purr machines!”
The 3-month-old kittens are described as “best friends, constant companions, and true soulmates.” Dark Matter, believed to have been born with vision impairment, often follows or stays beside his sister as he walks around.
“He may be completely blind, but that doesn’t slow him down when he has Comet by his side,” the humane society wrote. “She’s his eyes, his comfort, and his confidence. And he’s her shadow, her snuggle buddy, and the sweetest little guy you’ll ever meet.”
