Cat with ‘strong opinions’ has spent 100 days at shelter. Meet the ‘queen bee’
A picky shelter cat is ready to love a new family — “on her own terms.”
Zira — a “queen bee through and through” — has spent more than 100 days waiting at a South Carolina shelter, becoming its longest resident.
“Zira is a 4-year-old tabby with strong opinions and zero tolerance for drama (unless she is causing it),” the Greenville Humane Society wrote Aug. 19 on Facebook. “She doesn’t really do other cats. Period. This is her reality show, and the rest of the cast has been cut.”
The opinionated cat is up for adoption after she landed at the humane society in March. An owner surrendered her with a litter of four kittens, though the shelter doesn’t know if they were her babies.
“All the kittens were adopted, but Zira, being an adult, was overlooked time and time again,” Katie Wofford, marketing assistant for the shelter, told McClatchy News via email. “She’s a very sweet girl who prefers a calm, laid-back environment.”
Zira shows off her “soft side” when she’s comfortable around people. But you can still expect her to have her preferences, the humane society wrote in Facebook posts.
“She’s a girl’s girl, loves a good chat, and will sit on your lap like she paid rent,” the shelter wrote. “She’ll accept pets — when she feels like it — and will give you the slow blink of approval if you pass the vibe check. And if you even THINK about inviting a boy over without her permission? Prepare for the side-eye of your LIFE.”
The shelter in an online adoption profile said the “loyal” cat has warmed up to some men. It hopes she ends up with an understanding owner who has plenty of snacks.
“Why has she been here 152 days? Probably because she told the other adopters ‘no’ first,” the humane society wrote in its Aug. 19 post.
As of Aug. 21, the shelter’s website still listed Zira among the cats in need of homes. Details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at greenvillehumane.com.
