Dogs bit 78-year-old woman’s head and neck, SC cops say. Injuries are ‘severe’
A 78-year-old South Carolina woman suffered ”severe” injuries — including head wounds — when she was attacked by two dogs, according to investigators.
The woman was flown to a hospital in North Carolina and details of her current condition have not been released.
The attack was still in progress when deputies were summoned at about 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, to Hunts Mill Road in Chesterfield, the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office said in an Sept. 2 news release.
“Upon arrival animal control officers determined that the owner of the dogs had already secured the animals. The victim sustained severe lacerations to her body, head and neck,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Due to the seriousness of the injuries, she was airlifted to a trauma center in Charlotte, N.C., for emergency medical care where she remains.”
Animal control officers seized the dogs and the owner was “charged for two counts of animals at large and two counts of rabies violation,” the sheriff’s office said.
The identity of the victim and details of what prompted the attack have not been released.
Chesterfield is about a 60-mile drive southeast from Charlotte, N.C.
