This is the best dog-friendly restaurant in SC, Food Network says. Here’s why
Folks around Charleston have known for some time that the place to go for housemade charcuterie or Peanut Butter & Jelly beer is Edmund’s Oast.
The former beer store turned restaurant now has a new accolade: best dog-friendly restaurant in South Carolina, according to Food Network.
“Many locals will stop home to pick up their pups before heading over to Edmund’s Oast’s lush outdoor patio,” Food Network said on its list of the best dog friendly restaurants in each state.
Here’s what the restaurant says, “WE. LOVE. DOGS. We cannot legally allow pets inside as we’re a full-service restaurant, but we’d love to have your fur babies join us outside!”
Edmund’s Oast traces its beginnings to 2008, when two friends opened a beer store in Charleston.
“The Charleston Beer Exchange became known as a pioneer during a time when growlers were still a new concept and the state laws that governed how strong beer could be were just beginning to change,” the restaurant’s website says.
It closed when the restaurant opened.
Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company, founded in 2017, distributes beer in 11 states. There is a tap room as well as the restaurant on King Street.
“It’s easy to see why Edmund’s Oast is a Charleston hotspot: It serves good house-brewed beer and great food to soak it up. The imaginative low country-influenced New American menu offers bar bites like fried tripe with gochujang vinaigrette, chilled shrimp salad with cucumber ranch and housemade charcuterie,” Food Network said.
Conde Nast described the place as a compound — “huge concrete gathering space of picnic tables for casual beer drinkers, and beyond that, an outdoor bar attached to a covered beer hall “bower,” or seating area with long, family-style tables. Walk inside the main establishment and the term “hall” continues to ring true: expansive with high exposed beams, high-backed leather seating, a bar along the length of the place, and at the back, an open kitchen bustling with multiple cooks and servers.”
The restaurant has also been acclaimed by Jet Set Pets and Bring Fido, websites that list where pets are welcome.
“What sets it apart is its spacious, thoughtfully-designed patio,” Jet Set said. “For those who prefer a shaded spot, there are plenty of tables under cover, complete with fans and heaters to ensure comfort in any weather. If basking in the sunshine is more your style, you’ll find an abundance of nice picnic tables as well as laid-back seating areas furnished with cozy Adirondack-style chairs.”
Bring Fido said, “Dog owners rave about the spacious outdoor seating options on the patio or in the expansive courtyard and astroturf field.”
