‘Abandoned’ dog waited 700 days for new home. Then a familiar face stepped in
An “abandoned and neglected” dog spent 718 days waiting for a new home — until a familiar face stepped in.
After Bobo first got to know a foster family in 2023, they finally adopted him in South Carolina.
“Sweet Bobo is home to stay, y’all,” an animal shelter wrote Sept. 15 on Facebook. “We are absolutely thrilled!”
Bobo’s long-awaited adoption ended a journey that started in September 2023. He landed at the Darlington County Humane Society after he had been found “abandoned on a property,” the shelter told McClatchy News via email.
As Bobo adjusted to shelter life, a volunteer quickly noticed him. The woman “took him home for weekend sleepover,” which turned into weeks of the two spending time together.
In a past social media post, Bobo was called the “life of the party” and the “KING of house manners.” He also became known for his easygoing attitude.
“We want him to have the family of his dreams that will take him on adventures and play with him, even if that’s just in the backyard for frisbee or catch, then share all the cuddles together,” the dog’s foster family wrote. “He’s a go with the flow kind of guy and appreciates every bit of kindness that is offered to him, and that’s why we think he deserves the very best!”
Then, after Bobo spent two years in the shelter and in foster care, his luck took a turn for the better. He got a new home, and his “spot in bed is now forever his own.”
“The foster really started to believe he was HOME and adopted him,” the shelter wrote. “Going to foster saved his life! Being a crowded county shelter most dogs don’t have this length of stay.”
The shelter didn’t immediately share additional details with McClatchy News on Sept. 18. The facility is in Hartsville, a roughly 70-mile drive northeast from Columbia.
