This SC restaurant ranks among nation’s best for date nights. Why it’s romantic
If you’re looking for an ideal place to enjoy a special meal, you may be in luck.
That’s because a South Carolina restaurant was named one of the nation’s best places to go for dates.
Magnolias in Charleston ranks No. 10 on a list of top places for a romantic night out, according to results published Tuesday, Sept. 23.
To determine the fan-favorite restaurants, the travel website Tripadvisor said it studied the “quality and quantity of reviews and ratings” that customers left for restaurants across the country. It focused on feedback that people shared online in the year leading up to July 31.
“The Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel,” the website wrote in its report. “It’s awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period. Out of our 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieve this milestone.”
Why the SC restaurant is romantic
Nationwide, Tripadvisor said the top date-night restaurants set “the mood for a night of wining and dining.” Magnolias was the only place in South Carolina to earn a top 10 spot on the list.
Magnolias on its website said it serves “upscale Southern cuisine,” with dishes ranging from blackened catfish to fried green tomatoes. The restaurant in the popular tourist destination of Charleston was recognized after some Tripadvisor users praised its ambiance and called it an ideal spot for celebrating their anniversaries.
“Magnolias delivers a blend of polished charm, witty staff, and generous, always-balanced portions,” the travel website wrote in its report. “Creative choices and decadent desserts pair delightfully with attentive, caring service.”
When Magnolias launched in 1990, it “ushered in a culinary renaissance” for Charleston. Then in 2022, the business worked to bounce back from coronavirus-related staffing shortages and a kitchen fire, The State reported.
More recently, the restaurant on East Bay Street was named one of the best places to eat fried chicken in the United States, McClatchy News reported in July.
In the latest rankings from Tripadvisor, the nation’s No. 1 most romantic restaurant was Red Shoe Island Bistro in Key West, Florida. Restaurants in South Carolina made their marks in the top 10 on other lists from the travel website, including the best fine dining destinations and the casual eateries people love the most.
