These 10 vehicles are stolen the most in SC, report says. Is yours on the list?

Vehicle thefts in South Carolina declined in the first six months of this year compared to the same time period in 2024.

The number of stolen vehicles for the first six months of 2024 was 6,387 compared to 5,025 in 2025, a 21% decrease, according to The National Insurance Crime Bureau.

The bureau reported South Carolina ranked 19th in the country, compared to 20th in 2024. The bureau also said in the first half of this year South Carolina ranked 17th for vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents with about 91.72 thefts per 100,000 people.

Last year, it was 15th for vehicle thefts per 100,000 residents with about 231.82 thefts per 100,000 people.

Across the United States, thefts decreased 23% during the first six months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

All states except Alaska reported fewer thefts as did the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, which with Washington State led the nation in declines.

There were 334,114 vehicle thefts reported in the first half of 2025. The organization said a pandemic-fueled surge in thefts peaked in 2023.

Interestingly the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado were the second and third most stolen in 2024 after the Honda Accord.

Zebra, an online shopping site for car insurance, found the Honda Accord is the most often stolen car ever the past 10 years and eight of 15 of the most stolen cars over the same time period were manufactured by Japanese automakers.

Among U.S. carmakers, the most often stolen vehicles are pickup trucks. Zebra said pickups are the most often stolen vehicle in 32 states.
