Loaded gun found in middle school bathroom, SC cops say. Here’s who was arrested

A man who works at a middle school in South Carolina was arrested Monday for bringing a loaded gun into the school, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Andrea Brooks, 43, was charged with carrying a weapon on school property, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

The weapon was found inside a bathroom at Sandhills Middle School, according to the release. The Lexington District 4 school is at 582 Meadowfield Road in Gaston, between U.S. 321 and Fish Hatchery Road.

“The school resource officer was notified after a district employee told school administrators they discovered a firearm in one of the employee bathrooms,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release. “Brooks admitted to leaving the firearm in the bathroom after realizing he still had it on him.”

The school resource officer retrieved the firearm from the bathroom, which was locked off to students, according to the release.

Brooks was taken into custody at the school Monday afternoon and placed on administrative leave, the sheriff’s department said. He is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.

No bond has been set for Brooks, who remains behind bars, jail records show.

No injuries were reported and there was no word that anyone was threatened with the gun.
