South Carolina’s state government is advertising for 924 positions and 80 of them have top salaries of $100,000 or more.

Among them are psychiatrists — the top paying job listed on the state’s jobs website — lawyers, IT experts and a dentist at the Department of Corrections.

Here are the nine highest salaries for open positions in state government this week.

Forensic psychiatrist, with a salary of $215,077 annually at the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities in Columbia.

This job also is eligible for a $40,000 special assignment pay.

The job entails treating inpatients and evaluating court detainees on an Acute and/or Chronic Inpatient Unit in the specialty service of the Forensic Division. Also, this job may require expert testimony in court.

It requires detailed knowledge of managing dangerous, aggressive forensic patients, conducting daily ward rounds and prescribing treatment.

“Excellent diagnostic skills mandatory due to high rate of potential for malingered psychosis and other mental illnesses in forensic population,” the job listing says.

The listing goes on to say, “able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors including but not limited to combative, threatening, acting out and unpredictable violence. May be exposed to blood.”

Additionally, the doctor must be “able to work in a locked facility guarded by Custody Officers and evaluate seriously mentally ill patients from county jails who have a high potential for violence.”

The job requires a license to practice medicine in South Carolina, completion of a four-year residency in psychiatry and a minimum of three years in a psychiatric program.

Attorney V, with a salary of $110,800 to $210,500.00 annually for the State Treasurer’s Office in Richland County.

This is the deputy general counsel for the treasurer’s office and does legal research relating to investment management, treasury services, banking, state debt issuances, unclaimed property matters, ABLE savings programs, and college savings “529” programs.

The job requires a juris doctorate degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. At least seven years of full-time experience as a practicing attorney is required.

Preferred experiences include working with securities, banking, finance, and investment law is preferred, as a prosecuting attorney preferred or having an undergraduate degree in accounting and/or certification as a CPA.

IT Security Architect, at a salary of $123,811 to $210,500 annually in the Department of Revenue in Lexington County.

This job is the senior security architect responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure systems and infrastructure, both in the cloud and other technology.

The job requires either a bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field and experience in business administration, computer science, mathematics, engineering, management information science, networking-telecommunications, or data processing or relevant experience on a year-for-year basis as a bachelor’s degree.

Nurse Practitioner, with a salary of $107,700 to $204,600 annually at the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities’ G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia.

The job involves collaborating “with the supervising Medical Physician and attending Psychiatrists to provide medical care to patients at Bryan Psychiatric Hospital-Civil.”

The job requires a master’s or doctorate from an accredited nursing program, a nursing license and official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner.

“Must be able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors, including but not limited to, combative, threatening, acting out and unpredictable violence,” the job post says.

Senior IT Security Manager, with a salary of $101,759 to $175,400 annually at the Department of Revenue in Lexington County.

The job involves protecting SCDOR’s technology including “cybersecurity monitoring, network health, and compliance, and managing teams, vendors, and partnerships to ensure systems remain secure,” the listing says.

A bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, information technology, mathematics, statistics, management information science or a related field and experience in telecommunications, data processing, and/or information technology is required.

“Relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis,” the job post says.

At least five years of experience in information technology, managing IT or information systems, telecommunications, or data process is preferred.

Attorney IV, with a salary of $92,300 to $175,400 annually at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Richland County.

The person in this job supervises staff attorneys, paralegals, and records staff and responds to questions from judges, solicitors, defense counsel, and stakeholders regarding the juvenile justice system. It also oversees Freedom of Information Requests.

A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney is required.

Preferred requirements are a juris doctor degree with at least 15 years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Senior Legal Counsel, with a salary of $92,300 to $175,400 annually at the Department of Revenue in Lexington County.

This is the senior attorney handling tax and regulatory litigation, advising agency leadership, and providing subject-matter expertise on SC’s alcohol beverage laws.

Requirements are a juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and at least five years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Security Automation Architect, with a salary of $92,300 to $175,400 annually at the Department of Administration in Richland County.

The job involves using security tools such as SIEM, SOAR, vulnerability management and streamlining the State of South Carolina’s awareness, detection, alerting and reporting capabilities.

The job requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and five years of experience in IT security, software development, or automation.

Dentist, with a salary of $148,626 annually at the Department of Corrections in Richland County.

The job involves providing dental care to inmates and managing a dental clinic.

License to practice dentistry in South Carolina and graduation from an approved school of dentistry is required.
