6 SC companies to lay off over 600 workers, close 2 plants, new report says. Here’s where
Milliken has given notice it intends to close its Cedar Hill Plant in Jonesville, laying off 126 people, according to the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce.
The company said layoffs would begin April 3 and continue until Aug. 31.
Milliken makes broadwoven cotton fabric and broadwoven wool fabric at the mill.
With a population of about 900, Jonesville is located in Spartanburg County and is best known for its nature areas — Croft State Park and Glendale Shoals Preserve.
Also announcing closing is James Hardie Building Products, a worldwide siding company. It will close its Summerville location. In all, 78 people will be laid off.
In all, the January government report says 664 workers will lose their jobs.
Those announcing permanent layoff are:
Saddle Creek Logistics Services will lay off 130 people in Duncan. The company owns distribution facilities has locations across the United States, employing about 5,000 people.
JeniusBank, statewide layoff, three people — offers online banking services in 39 states.
eREV Supply Chain and DLH Solutions, both located at the same address in Charleston, will lay off 327 people total.
Since 1988, when Congress passed the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies must provide information on layoffs at least 60 days in advance to allow workers to have time to prepare for a layoff.
The notice triggers the Rapid Response team to help laid off employees with new jobs or training.
“Upon receipt of a WARN notice, the State Rapid Response Dislocated Worker Unit coordinates with the employer to provide on-site information to the workers and employers about employment and retraining services that are designed to help participants find new jobs.”
