2 Shake Shack restaurants to open in 2 SC cities. Here’s where
Coming to a location near you — sort of — the much-hyped New York-based hamburger phenom Shake Shack.
Construction on the North Charleston location has started and another is planned for Greenville’s Woodruff Road.
The North Charleston store will be located in the Tanger Outlets, which is also adding Lululemon and Jamba Juice in a $6 million renovation. The center also added a play area and lawn for events.
A Shake Shack spokesperson said Wednesday there are no opening dates set yet, but they are hoping to open both by the end of the year.
“Opening new Shacks are complex projects,” she said.
The company has not announced the Greenville location, but several media outlets reported it will be in the Woodruff Road area near Interstate 385, which has many national restaurant chains and stores.
The company has been advertising on hiring websites for managers in Greenville.
Danny Meyer, whose Union Square Hospitality Group owns various New York City restaurants including Grammercy Tavern, opened Shake Shack in 2001 as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park to support a Madison Square Park Conservancy’s art installation.
In 2004, it became a permanent kiosk and “quickly turned into a neighborhood favorite,” the company says on its website. “Since then, we’ve grown into a global team rooted in hospitality, quality, and community.”
The company is embarking on a major expansion that ultimately could see 1,500 restaurants worldwide.
It has about 400 locations now.
The company motto is “Stand for something good.”
“Our individual actions matter in the pursuit of our purpose and mission. Elevating everything we do and creating uplifting experiences for others is the goal,” the company said on its website.
