From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., a memorial service was scheduled at Brookland Baptist Church on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia. The service will be open to the public.
Other services for Jackson are planned in Washington D.C. Wednesday and in Chicago at House of Hope at 9 a.m. Friday.
The Associated Press reported Thursday details on services in Washington have not yet been made public, but he will not lie in honor at the United States Capitol rotunda after House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office denied the request.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that alternative Washington, D.C., locations were being discussed, including Howard University, the Washington National Cathedral or the National Museum of African American History.
A private service will be held on Saturday at Rainbow PUSH, the organization Jackson founded in 1996.
