Did the 2 SC singers on American Idol this year make it to Top 20? Here’s what happened
The two South Carolina singers in the top 30 of American Idol were among the 10 cut during the Monday competition.
Chloe Lauren of Warrenville sang Adele’s “Hello” and had a tough time getting through it. She stopped singing at one point, the show cut to a commercial, and when they came back she finished the song.
Judge Carrie Underwood told her, “We love your voice. It’s not about the little things that go wrong. Way to finish strong.”
Sumter native Tianna Roberts’ performance was not aired, and her absence was not explained. She said on Facebook, “If you were watching American Idol tonight to support me. I just wanted to inform you that I will not be airing, and I didn’t make top 20. Thanks for your support.”
She had received a golden ticket after her audition in which she sang the hymn “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior.”
Roberts is a graduate of Sumter High School and of University of South Carolina Sumter in 2021.
In her audition, Roberts told judges she decided to overcome fears and audition for “American Idol” because the risk was worth the sacrifice.
“No risk, no story. So here I am,” she said.
Chloe Lauren, 25, a stay at home mom, was shown talking to her young son via a video call and said how much she wished he could have been with her in Hawaii, where the competition was held at the Aulani Resort.
She also got a lot of screen time, sitting in the front row of the contestants during the two-hour show.
The judges — Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan — critiqued the performances and three other groups — the contestants, the artists’ family and friends and a group from the music industry — selected the platinum winners.
“American Idol” airs on Monday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC.
