3 SC hospitals listed as best places to work in healthcare in 2026, report says. Here’s why

Healthcare workers are some of the hardest-working and dedicated members of our society, but not every hospital provides them with the work environment they deserve.

Burnout remains high among healthcare workers. The realities of the U.S.’s health care system are increasing the risk of mental health challenges and making them leave the health workforce early, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

There is a range of societal, cultural, structural and organizational factors that contribute to burnout among health workers. Some examples include “excessive workloads, administrative burdens, limited say in scheduling and lack of organizational support.”

This can make those who were inspired to help others by working in a hospital choose a different career path.

On the bright side, there are still many hospitals that make their employees feel less stressed and give a manageable workload.

In South Carolina, three hospitals were listed on Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the best places to work in healthcare in 2026. A total of 165 hospitals across the U.S. were spotlighted.

Best SC hospitals to work at in 2026

AnMed, Anderson

AnMed is a community-based, not-for-profit healthcare system with over 4,000 teammates, and is “all united by a mission to improve the health and lives of the communities it serves.”

Founded in 1908, the hospital serves the Upstate and northeast Georgia, and has 620 physicians on medical staff and about 3,600 employees.

According to Becker’s Hospital Review, AnMed has invested nearly $40 million in recent years to increase worker’s compensation, to support recruitment, retention and equity.

Employees receive a benefits package that includes employer-funded retirement plans, discounted medical services, holistic wellness programming, paid time off, chaplaincy services and crisis support initiatives.

Prisma Health, Greenville

Prisma Health operates with a purpose to “inspire health, serve with compassion and be the difference, shaping a workplace designed to support team members both as caregivers and as members of the communities they serve.”

For its healthcare workers, the organization offers medical, dental and vision coverage, retirement plans, paid time off, parental leave and tuition assistance.

Prisma Health’s culture and workforce investments have earned recognition from Forbes, Fortune, the American Heart Association and Aetna for workplace wellbeing and innovation.

This hospital has donated more than $1.3 billion in charity care, un-reimbursed medical costs and investment in community health.

Tidelands Health, Georgetown

Tidelands Health is the largest healthcare provider in coastal SC, operating four hospitals and over 70 outpatient locations. The hospital is known for its “Age-Friendly” care, where they provide high-quality care that meets the unique needs of patients at all stages of life.

They are also a not-for-profit healthcare system united by “a mission to help people live better lives through better health, serving the fast-growing coastal South Carolina region.”

With approximately 2,500 physicians, employees and volunteer partners, Tidelands Health pushes towards a culture of “inclusion, teamwork and service.”

According to Becker’s Hospital Review, team members receive a customizable total rewards program that includes competitive pay, generous paid time off, multiple health insurance options, mental health resources such as “Caring for the Caregiver,” wellness programming and a comprehensive recognition platform.
