The best burger restaurant in SC offers Doritos as a topping, new ranking shows. Do you agree?
If you ever thought of adding Doritos to a hamburger or Fritos or onion straws, Windy City Burgers is the place for you.
The small downtown Greenville restaurant was recently named the best burger joint in South Carolina by Foodie.com.
Opened in 2022, it is the creation of Nicole O’Brien, a former teacher from Chicago, hence the name.
“Good luck finding a bad word said about this Greenville burger joint. Diners have fallen over themselves to praise Windy City’s craft burgers, from 10/10 recommendations, and declarations they are the best ever, to video reviews full of “mmmms” of delight,” Foodie said.
They make the buns and ground the meat in house and the creativity of the burgers is “nothing short of spectacular,” Foodie said.
Consider the basic burger. Choose beef or pork belly. Here’s what you can add: egg, onion straws, bacon, pimento cheese, goat cheese, bleu cheese, extra sauce, grilled mushrooms or onions, pork belly, or crab cake for an additional charge.
Or the Ravenswood, half pound of your choice of protein, bacon, Bleu Cheese, creamy Buffalo sauce, pickled celery, homemade onion straws.
How about The Rush, protein, chorizo, habanero ghost pepper jack cheese, roasted jalapeno, tri-colored tortilla strips, chipotle ranch drizzle. Can we say spicy with five stars?
Grilled or fried chicken, impossible burger, or lettuce wrap are options.
Let’s not forget the garlic chili pork belly fries or Buffalo bleu cheese fries.
“When someone opens the door to Windy City, I want them to feel like they’ve just walked into a family party,” O’Brien told the Greenville Journal. “We go out of our way to make people feel welcome.”
Foodie.com released its list of the best burgers in each state, saying, an estimated 50 billion burgers are eaten annually in the United States.
“Even better, people who love a soft white bun, beef or plant-based patty, topped with whatever floats their boat, have more than 86,000 outlets to choose from,” Foodie said.
Pro tip: don’t go to their website to see the restaurants while you’re hungry. You might be hopping in your car to drive to Greenville or to Juicy Lucy’s Burger Bar and Grill in Asheville, North Carolina or The Vortex Bar & Grill in Atlanta.
Or a true road trip to Tommy’s Burger Stop in Anchorage, Alaska.
