The cheapest day to get gas in SC revealed, new study says. Here’s the best time to fill up
Even though gas prices have decreased in much of the country over the past couple of weeks, fuel is still far more costly than it was a year ago.
As of Wednesday, the nation’s average gas price was $4.26, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). In South Carolina, the average price was $3.84, down from $4.06 a week ago, but up from $2.77 a year ago.
That doesn’t mean you should settle for expensive gas. One of the best ways to get affordable gas is by choosing the right day to go to the gas station.
The cheapest and most expensive days to get gas in each state were revealed in a recent study from Delancey Street. They analyzed daily gas price data across all 50 states using GasBuddy figures to determine which day of the week is cheapest for drivers to fill up in each state.
The study calculated the average price per gallon for every day of the week in each state, then identified the day when prices were consistently at their lowest.
Here’s the best day to go to the gas station in SC:
Cheapest day to get gas in SC
SC has the cheapest gas, on average, at the beginning of the week. Across 34 states, including SC, Monday is the best day to fill up.
According to the study, gas might be cheaper on Monday due to gas stations adjusting after weekend demand. With more road trips, errands and leisure driving typically happening from Friday through Sunday, prices appear to ease slightly once the weekend rush passes.
For many drivers, that means the first day of the workweek could be the smartest time to stop at the pump.
On the flip side, the most expensive day to get gas is later in the week.
Most expensive day to get gas in SC
You might have thought gas would be more expensive during the weekend, but it’s actually one of the cheapest times to get gas in most states. Instead, gas prices jump toward the middle of the week.
SC is one of the 32 states that have the priciest gas on Wednesdays. Costs might increase due to gas stations trying to get ahead of weekend demand.
Drivers in SC should try to avoid filling up their cars later in the week and aim to get gas on Monday.
