An Aynor High School teacher was arrested and charged with manufacturing and distributing cocaine.

Robert Dean Johnson, a career and technology teacher, was arrested Tuesday for manufacturing, distributing and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to J. Reuben Long Detention Center records.

Johnson, 51, of Galivants Ferry, remains jailed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center as of Wednesday afternoon. He was arrested by Horry County police, records said.

Johnson was placed on administrative leave with pay Wednesday and the Horry County Schools district will complete an administrative review, Horry County Schools spokeswoman Teal Harding said.

“Any further action on our part will deal with whether he resigned or was terminated, and the time frame of that decision,” Harding said.

The review could take several months depending on the actions of the court, Harding said.

Johnson taught journalism, yearbook and video broadcast classes along with other technology classes, Harding said.

Johnson was hired in 2007 as a substitute teacher for the district, then was hired at Aynor High in 2009 as a career and technology teacher, Harding said.

Johnson was Aynor High’s Teacher of the Year in 2012.
