Runner dies during Savannah half-marathon
A runner died during Saturday’s Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon in Savannah, WTOC-TV reported.
The man was 35 years old and his identity was not released at the request of his family, the television station reported. The Savannah Morning News reported that the man was from Georgia.
“We are saddened by a heartbreaking and tragic loss. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to family members and loved ones of the runner,” said a statement released by marathon medical director P.Z. Pearce.
A moment of silence is planned before Sunday’s 5K race.
Two years ago, 35-year-old Jake Zeman of Columbia, died after falling ill near the finish line during the Rock 'n' Roll Savannah Marathon.
