Authorities in Anderson County say a 23-year-old woman faces a murder charge in the death of her newborn, whose body was found in a field.

Joanie Faith Holcombe is charged with murder and unauthorized removal of a dead body, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said in a Sunday news release. She’s being held at the Anderson County Detention Center.

The sheriff’s office said her bond hearing has been delayed until Tuesday due to health reasons.

Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman said a man was walking through the woods around 10 a.m. Saturday when he saw the baby and called 911.

The placenta and umbilical cord were still attached to the infant, Boseman said.

An autopsy Monday will determine whether the baby, a white full-term girl, was born alive.

It wasn't clear whether Holcombe has an attorney.
