Ammunition ‘pops’ inside as firefighters battle Fair Play, SC, house fire on Thursday
Firefighters from 4 nearby towns joined the firemen in Fair Play Thursday afternoon after a call came in about a house fire on Wilderness Road.
Firefighters could hear ammunition popping in the house as it was engulfed by flames, Oconee County fire chief Charles King said in a news release Thursday night.
Although no humans were hurt in the conflagration, a family dog was killed, he said.
The house and all its contents were a total loss, King said. Efforts now are underway to determine what caused the fire.
