Ten killed on S.C. roadways over the weekend

South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there were 10 road deaths reported over the weekend.

Officials said one death occurred on a county road while nine occurred on U.S. routes, S.C. roads and secondary roads.

In five of the deaths, officials said a seat belt was used, while three others did not use a seat belt. In one wreck, seat belt usuage is unknown. One of those killed was a motorcyclist not wearing a helmet.

As of Sunday, 302 people have died on state highways, compared to 321 highway deaths during the same time period in 2015. Of the 205 motor-vehicle occupants who have died in 2016, 94 were not wearing seat belts.

Thirty-nine pedestrians have been killed compared to 40 during the same time period in 2015. Thirty-eight motorcyclists have been killed compared to 31 in 2015. Nine bicyclists have died in 2016 compared to nine this time in 2015.
